Thelma Jo Fisher passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, in Trophy Club, Texas. She and her husband, Elmer, were faithful members of Lake Shore for many years before moving to Trophy Club to be near family. One of her gifts was teaching the Esther Sunday School class (now the Philia class).
Jo was born as Thelma Jo Alexander on May 14, 1930, in Tulia. After graduating from Waco High School in 1948, she attended Mary Hardin Baylor and completed her college education at Baylor University receiving her librarian certification.
Jo served as a librarian in the Waco ISD for 25 years. She worked with the students attending Waco High School and later University High School until her retirement in 1990. After her retirement, she served as a part-time librarian in the Riesel schools.
Jo married Elmer Fisher on June 9, 1950. They spent 56 wonderful years together raising their children, enjoying their grandchildren and traveling to the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina and the beaches of Hawaii.
Jo loved to travel. She toured London, England; hiked the national parks in Utah; drove through the deep South, stopping in New Orleans and Nashville; and enjoyed the sights of San Francisco. However, her favorite destinations were the green mountain forests of North Carolina and the warm beaches of Hawaii — her places of peace and beauty.
Her five grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed traveling to Disneyland with the Kennedy grandchildren and babysitting them in their Albuquerque home. She enjoyed taking the Sanders grandchildren to the library, reading to them, taking care of them and attending their athletic and school events.
