Jack Fortenberry
September 11, 1928 – June 2, 2012
Lake Shore member Jack Fortenberry died June 2 at Ridgecrest Nursing Center, where he had lived for the past eighteen months. Jack was a charter member of Lake Shore who reconnected with the church around the 50th anniversary celebration in 2009. Soon he met Charlene Eakin, who had recently moved to Waco from Austin. From their wedding here during worship in February 2010 until today, their marriage has been one of faithful love and presence. Charlene was with him when he died. During his career, Jack taught art at Baylor and at MCC for many years, spent several years in advertising, and, recently, was a restorer of fine art. Soon after “coming home” to Lake Shore he offered his gifts by painting a children’s chair that we auctioned for Shalom Children’s Center. The next summer he contributed a painting to Lake Shore’s water gallery exhibition. Lake Shore embraced him, and he loved Lake Shore deeply. even when he couldn’t be here. Thanks be to God for giving us the chance to know him.
